Nová Hut has taken over the Ostrava plant. Production continues and new investment opportunities open up
Ostrava, 1 October 2025 – On 30 September 2025, NOVÁ HUŤ s.r.o. legally took over the main Liberty Ostrava plant from the insolvency administrator, following the approval of the transaction by the Czech Competition Authority (ÚOHS) and the consent of the insolvency court. The ceremonial handover took place on 1 October 2025. Nová Huť builds on the long-standing tradition of Ostrava’s steelmaking while leading the company towards a modern, sustainable and future-oriented business model.
“We will continue production while also developing the potential of the site. This means the area will be divided into two parts – industrial and development. The site offers a wide range of opportunities for leasing and selling real estate as well as attractive investments. We are already in talks with potential partners about their use for various purposes. Our priorities remain stabilising operations, securing long-term employment and gradual production development in line with the requirements of the modern market,” said Radek Strouhal, CEO of NOVÁ HUŤ s.r.o.
Since 1 October 2025, the company has been operating under the new name of NOVÁ HUŤ and at the same time introduces a new logo that symbolizes the new phase of company development.
The company will continue to operate under tolling financing. The Tube Plant and Flat Rolling Mill will operate in cooperation with Vítkovice Machinery Trade, s.r.o., while the Long Products Rolling Mill will continue production in cooperation with Donquixote s.r.o. “Our products have long been associated with quality and the expertise of our employees. We believe we will continue existing relationships with our partners and maintain a strong position in steel markets. We will preserve the production of seamless and welded tubes, coils, road safety barriers and long steel products such as threaded bars and rebar,” added Radek Strouhal.
The site covers an area of approximately 600 hectares. The primary production facilities – blast furnaces, steel plant and coking plant – are no longer in operation. However, the key units remain active: the Tube Plant, the Flat Rolling Mill and the Long Products Rolling Mill. In connection with the takeover, intensive dialogue with trade unions led to the extension of the collective agreement until 31 March 2028. At the same time, wages were increased, and the remuneration system was streamlined. Employees are regarded by the new owner as a cornerstone of the company’s stability and future growth.
