NOVÁ HUŤ prepares strategic investments: the key objective is an electric arc furnace project

Ostrava, January 28, 2026 – NOVÁ HUŤ continues to prepare strategic investments that will contribute to the long-term modernization of production, increase energy efficiency, and reduce environmental impact. The most significant investment plan is the preparation of a project to build an electric arc furnace with a planned capacity of up to 1.5 million tons of steel per year.

It is a long-term and technologically and financially demanding project, with the investment volume currently estimated at approximately CZK 17 billion. Its possible implementation would take place over several years and will depend on the ongoing assessment of market, economic, and regulatory conditions.

"We are currently in the preparatory phase. We are focusing on processing the project documentation and related materials, while closely monitoring developments in the energy sector, the steel market, and the regulatory environment," says Ivo Chmelík, Chief Operations and Technical Officer, NOVÁ HUŤ.

The company has already received support for the preparation of the project from the Modernization Fund of the Ministry of the Environment, specifically from a program focused on increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in industry.

In addition to this strategic plan, NOVÁ HUŤ will also focus on implementing a number of smaller investment projects in 2026 that will have an immediate impact on production operations. These investments mainly concern making production more environmentally friendly, reducing energy consumption, using energy sources more efficiently, gradually reducing physically demanding work, and upgrading the technical condition of assets.

Planned projects include, for example, the installation of a new defect detection machine at the Tube plant and the use of waste heat in preheating furnaces.

"For smaller investments, we are focusing on increasing operational reliability and efficiency. The goal is to gradually improve working conditions for employees while strengthening the quality of our products, including those with higher added value," adds Ivo Chmelík.

In 2025, NOVÁ HUŤ invested approximately CZK 65 million in the revamp of its production facilities. For 2026, it plans to invest around CZK 150 million in this area, with specific projects being implemented gradually depending on the company's operational and economic capabilities.
